At Active Family Healthcare, we are passionate about family medicine. A healthy lifestyle can be achieved across the lifespan, and we believe it is never to early to start! We love working with families to develop new strategies for healthy diet choices and fun ways to get outside and be active together.

When illnesses or injuries do occur, they affect the whole family. Often multiple family members catch the same illness, and we are able to treat parents and children in one convenient location.  When a family member has a serious health challenge, we understand that the whole family has changing health care needs.

Active Family is a comprehensive family medical practice dedicated to helping you manage your health as well as encouraging and supporting you in taking an active role in your own wellbeing.   We have a very holistic approach when doing annual wellness exams, sports exams, and well-child exams that takes a peek at all aspects of your life to provide you with unsurpassed preventative care.  We specialize in preventing diseases, illnesses, and injury by fostering lifestyle habit changes, optimizing nutrition, providing anticipatory guidance, and tailoring exercise programs that have your best interests and needs in mind.  We encourage all our patients to schedule a wellness exam yearly.  We also offer all childhood immunizations.  If you choose not to vaccinate your children, that is your choice, and we would still be glad to offer help with any other concerns you have.   We are here to meet your needs!

Acute Care: At Active Family Healthcare, we expect the unexpected. We understand that illnesses and injuries occur at the most inopportune times. We are usually able to schedule an appointment that day or at least that week. We have in-house lab tests, such as urinalysis and and strep swabs, and durable medical equipment, such as walking boots and wrists braces.  This allows us to send you on the road to recovery as quickly as possible. 

Chronic Care: We have experience treating a wide variety of chronic illnesses, but we do it a little bit differently. We understand the challenges that come from living with chronic health challenges such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD, inflammatory bowel disease and arthritis. We take the time to listen to your experience, so that we can understand your unique needs. We work with you to create a treatment plan for your chronic conditions that combines leading pharmaceutical options, natural supplements, and lifestyle recommendations.

Jen Fletcher has always loved sports medicine.  Her undergraduate degree was devoted to sports medicine, and she was an athletic trainer.

Nothing is more fulfilling to her than getting athletes injuries diagnosed properly and helping them on the road to recovery and most back to the sport they love.  Our providers are previous college athletes and Ironman finishers, so they are empathetic and can understand exactly what these injured patients are going through.  We know there is nothing more frustrating than seeing a provider for an injury and his/her only advice is to “take time off.”   We work together with physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and other specialists including orthopedic doctors to get you healed as quickly as possible. 

We also devote our practice to helping those with disabilities and chronic injury to become more active.  Utilizing alternate forms of exercise and rehab to promote activity and health.

We know that women’s health concerns are a sensitive matter and are sometimes embarrassing topics to discuss with your doctor.  At Active Family we strive to make the process as easy as possible and it starts by having female providers that are empathetic to your situation.  Our providers are trained to do annual breast/pelvic exams/pap smears and also diagnose and treat most female issues and diseases.  We utilize the latest technology, which gives our patients the superior care and treatment they deserve.  As often as possible we like to use natural means to treat our patients, which includes bio-identical hormones.  We recommend all our patients schedule a yearly wellness exam regardless of symptoms in order to prevent diseases or problems, or diagnose problems at the earliest possible time in order to achieve the best outcomes. We also offer the BRAC test for those women at higher risk for ovarian and breast cancer. 

Active Family Healthcare is proud to have onsite counseling services available with Kendyl Kissel, MA, LPC, LMHC. Kendyl is very passionate about mental health and helping others. The foundation of her counseling is built on forming a genuine relationship with her clients. She believes everyone’s  experience is unique and most mental health symptoms were born with the intention to protect us  somehow. She would love to work alongside you to help bring awareness to your ways of being  that are no longer serving you in a positive way. 

When Kendyl is not working, she can be found out on the golf course or hanging out with her family, friends, and her dog – Buzz. She is very excited to be able to be apart of the Coeur d’ Alene community and the Active Family team.
