In 2015 Lupus claimed the life of one my best friends from high school. She battled Lupus for 22 years of her life and passed at the age of 44. In high school she was our standout point guard (#22) on our championship Varsity Basketball Team. Our team made it farther than any other Clearlake high school basketball team in its history. She was the crucial leader in the endeavor.
Leslie was courageous, not only when she was a youngster, but throughout her battle with Lupus. I have never met a tougher person in my entire life. She always had the most amazing attitude. I am truly grateful for all my memories with Leslie (nickname Boo) and I know she will be proud of me as I race in her memory.
I will the racing the Coeur d Alene Half Ironman on June 26, 2016, in memory of my dear friend Leslie Beebout, #22. The race is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13 mile run. For the last 6 months I have worn her “believe”/ “Leslie” yellow bracelet; so in a sense she has traveled this whole journey with me. During my days of suffering through tough rides or runs, I would look at my bracelet and think that this is nothing compared to what she endured.
Cheers to Leslie, my hero, my friend, my hoop buddy, and my inspiration!
